TripAdvisor partners with Australia’s Dimmi. Travelers can now gain access to real-time restaurant bookings via Dimmi on TripAdvisor and its mobile app.

Founded in 2009, Dimmi is a Australia-based restaurant reservation and review website. To date, the company has partnered with more than 2,500 restaurants in Australia, and has served more than three million dinners. The company has recently signed a partnership with global travel website TripAdvisor. The announcement follows shortly after they entered into a partnership with Google.

The partnership will see TripAdvisor offering its travellers real time access to Dimmi restaurant bookings. This will be available through both TripAdvisor’s website and mobile app. This feature has also been added to TripAdvisor’s city guides, available for Sydney and Melbourne, allowing users to access information when they’re offline.

“By partnering with TripAdvisor we can now help introduce Australian restaurants to a whole new market segment, that of the interstate and international traveller,” - Stevan Premutico – CEO & Founder of Dimmi

Dimmi also revealed to StartupSmart that it was TripAdvisor that approached Dimmi for the partnership. As a global company, TripAdvisor needed someone on the ground in Australia to drive a more physical presence. Partnering with Dimmi was a cost effective way to achieve that.

Earlier last month, Dimmi also struck a deal with Google, allowing Dimmi users to make restaurant reservations in Google Search and Google Maps for mobile.

The food tech space has been really active this year, and 500 Startups’ founding partner Dave McClure also revealed that he is bullish about this vertical. In Singapore, restaurant review site HungryGoWhere was acquired for S$12 million (US$9.7 million) last year, and earlier this year, restaurant booking site Chope received a series B funding at a US$5.2 million valuation, showing the vote of confidence by investors.

In mid-2012, Dimmi became the first Australian investment of Telstra’s new venture capital arm, the Telstra Applications and Ventures Group. Dimmi is also backed by Village Roadshow.
