Wongnai Media has just announced securing Series A funding from RSP, a Silicon Valley based venture firm owned by Recruit Holdings.
Wongnai Media Co., Ltd, known for its restaurant review applications, today announced that it has secured Series A funding from Recruit Strategic Partners, Inc (RSP), a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm owned by Recruit Holdings in Japan. With this, Wongnai has said that the investment will be used to accelerate the company’s growth in both user base and community.
Just yesterday, we also covered the announcement that RSP, along with US-based Siemer Ventures and fellow Japan-based GMO Venture Partners, had invested in Ardent Capital, an investor in e27. Interestingly, Adrian Vanzyl, CEO and co-founder of Ardent had also commented in yesterday’s post that there “won’t be a Series A crunch as such, because historically there hasn’t been significant Series A.”
Akihiko Okamoto, president of RSP commented that they are excited to work with the Thai-based restaurant review application as they have a bright management team and local insights relevant to accelerate growth. “We expect them to become dominant No.1 player in Thai online restaurant guide vertical. We look forward to combining our know-how and experience with Wongnai’s local insights to accelerate the growth.”
Wongnai Media’s CEO and co-founder, Yod Chinsupakul also shared that the key to success is the community. They are hoping to gain more users and reviews so as to provide more useful and accurate information. “While we are confident in our products, our team continues to work hard to get people what they look for: accurate restaurant information, quality reviews, and make it fun and easy to use.”
He added that since Recruit Holdings, the parent company of RSP has a track record of success with regard to running similar services in Japan, he is confident this strategic investor will bring them to new heights.
